Zeughauskeller is a traditional Swiss restaurant in Altstadt, Zürich, right by Bahnhofstrasse 28A. Expect a loud, convivial dining hall vibe—think shared tables, fast-moving staff, and the kind of spontaneous room-wide birthday chorus that tells you you’re in for a proper night out.
Come hungry. The menu leans into comforting, rustic flavors: the pork shank is the move if you want something bold and meaty, while seasonal plates like an autumn platter bring in well-balanced veg alongside rich sauces. If you spot the famous “sword” dish being carried through the room, you’ll get why people come here in groups—it’s built for drama and appetite. Even when it’s packed, the place keeps its rhythm: order quickly, eat well, and settle into the lively buzz.
For value, Zeughauskeller makes sense in a city where dinner can get silly-fast. You’re paying for generous portions, a historic-feeling room, and real Zurich restaurant atmosphere—not precious plating.
Insider tip: Book ahead and arrive early; ask to share a table if it’s busy—it’s part of the fun. Go for Zurich restaurant comfort food and leave happily full.

in the last weekI (a regular customer) and my family (4 people) ordered drinks and desserts today, Saturday, at 3:30 pm (CHF 49). When we ordered, the server very rudely informed us that food must be ordered all day on Saturdays. Only after insisting and having our placemats ripped away were we able to order dessert. This isn't mentioned anywhere and is completely unnecessary in the afternoon. What a shame, one less regular customer... Goodbye ZHK!
