Flaky, Fresh Pastries Done Right in Sant Antoni

Forn Mistral | Sant Antoni is a busy neighborhood bakery located in Sant Antoni, Barcelona, a go-to spot when you want proper pastries without the tourist-trap markup. People rave about the ensaïmada con crema: light and flaky, still a little doughy, and sweet (but not overly so) — plus the staff keep things moving even when it’s packed.

Expect a classic counter setup: grab a ticket at the entrance, wait your turn, and then point decisively. Everything comes out smelling like warm butter and toasted sugar, with trays of freshly baked treats rotating fast. It’s the kind of place where you’ll want to “try one more” because the texture is just… right. If you’re searching for Barcelona bakery quality that locals actually use, this is the place.

Value-wise, Forn Mistral | Sant Antoni delivers: generous portions, fresh bakes, and consistent results—no paying extra for a fancy story. With thousands of customers backing it, it’s clearly doing something right.

Insider tip: Skip the sit-down rush—buy takeaway from the bakery side and go early to score the ensaïmada con crema while it’s at peak freshness. Grab two and share; you’ll thank yourself.

Overrated place. This morning I bought a custard croissant that disappointed me. To begin with, it was a little burnt at the ends, then the "custard" filling was just a lump of wet flour; there was hardly any trace of eggs or milk. Also, I think they use lard in the dough because it doesn't taste like butter, and after three hours I still can't digest it. Maybe the bread is good... but the croissant is definitely not!
